Matt Riggen Trio Plus ft. Aja Essex - Live

About this event

Don’t miss this special performance from bass, drum, and horn trio Matt Riggen Plus , with special guest saxophonist Aja Essex

In the studio, "Matt Riggen Trio Plus" creates an image of a horns-heavy jazz large ensemble. This vital and expressive group, driven by a flexible bass-and-drums rhythm section and Matt Riggen's multi-instrumental capacity, paints a picture of an octet or nonet all on the exact same page. The cohesion is not diminished by the fact that all the wind instruments are played by the same person at different times in a complex marriage of rigorous composition and free-spirited overdubbing.

Live, the trio steps out as a small ensemble possessed of the same expressivity and energy--and in the spirit of the community that made learning half-a-dozen wind instruments possible, the trio features peerless players and friends as guests who present their own views on the trio's repertoire. With the scale at hand, how could it be anything but Trio Plus?
