About this event
The Chicago Immigrant Orchestra (CIO) performs as a culmination of the Humanities X course, Music and Chicago Immigrant Communities, taught by Dr. Kate Brucher, from the Department of Musical Studies at the School of Music, and Dr. Jordan Levy, from the Department of Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
The Chicago Immigrant Orchestra, led by Fareed Haque and Wanees Zarour (MM Jazz Studies '21), brings together repertoire, instruments, and musicians from all over the world, highlighting the unique endeavor of creating a common musical dialect amongst many musical traditions. The students interviewed, observed, and dialogued with members of the CIO to document musicians’ pathways to Chicago and professional musicianship and gain a better understanding of processes underlying intercultural interaction and collaboration.
This project is made possible by HumanitiesX, DePaul University's Experiential Humanities Collaborative. For more information on the Chicago Immigrant Orchestra, visit their website here .
