Chicago Gamespace is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Chicago-based designer and artist Grace Spee . Through risograph prints, artist books, and sculpture, Spee’s work draws from the visual language of survival horror video games such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil . Her work examines how these games evoke feelings of vulnerability and fear through Gothic environments, female protagonists, and the careful management of scarce resources.
The exhibition features two hand-printed artist books inspired by the Silent Hill series, a large-scale articulated paper doll incorporating imagery from classic survival horror games, and a selection of game-inspired risograph prints. A playable copy of the original Silent Hill provides historical context for the work, while a recorded talk by Spee on typography in video games offers additional insight into her research and design practice.
Grace Spee is a Chicago-based designer, educator, and clinical assistant professor in the UIC School of Design.
