About this event

The York Center Park District invites community members, local leaders, and park enthusiasts to celebrate the official opening of the new improvements at Knolls Community Park on Friday, November 6. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the unveiling of brand-new pickleball courts, nature play area, and new pavilion designed to enhance outdoor recreation for residents of all ages.

The project was made possible in part by matching funding from the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant program, administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The OSLAD program supports local government agencies in procuring and developing public outdoor recreation areas.

Ribbon-Cutting Event Details:

Date: Friday, November 6, 2026

Time: 3:00-5:00pm

Location: Knolls Community Park, 1416 S. Meyers Rd, Lombard, IL 60148

Activities: Ribbon-cutting photo opportunity, open play on the new pickleball courts and nature play elements, light refreshments, and a family-friendly craft to put your mark on the park.

The addition of dedicated pickleball courts answers the growing demand for one of the nation’s fastest-growing sports, offering space for active play, competitive games, and more. Complementing the athletic addition, the new nature play area encourages sensory-rich, unstructured play, adding a new element along the path. The new pavilion offers the community a place to gather with new game tables to enjoy.

The York Center Park District is thrilled to complete this vision for Knolls Community Park and open these new amenities to our community. Thanks to the support of the OSLAD grant program, we were able to deliver versatile recreational spaces that serve both active adults and young families right here in our neighborhood.

The ribbon-cutting event is free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to bring their paddles and explore the new facilities following the ceremony.
