About this event

We are thrilled to be a part of Word.

Explore Spudnik’s type collection by setting a small Chicago-inspired form (think: your favorite Chicago quote, a little streetscape made of ornaments, etc)! Everyone’s contributions will be printed on our SP-25 onto a 19×25” single sheet and folded into a collaborative, take-home souvenir zine!

Friday : Come see the studio and set your type contribution with us (12-5pm).

Saturday : Typesetters arrive early! We will conclude typesetting at noon CST. After that, visitors can participate in the activity by helping us print and fold the completed booklets! And distribute type of course. (9-4pm)

Sunday : Pickup your commemorative, collaborative Spudnik WORD print at the print swap Sunday morning! (9am-12pm at Artists Book House, 4207 W Irving Park Rd, Chicago)

About Word?! a WAyzgoose?

A Wayzgoose is traditionally an annual festival or outing for printers, historically held around St. Bartholomew’s Day (August 24th) to celebrate the end of summer and the start of working by candlelight.

WORD or Wayzgoose ORD (ORD is the IATA code for Chicago’s O’Hare Airport), is our effort to bring the letterpress community together during this traditional meeting time. For this first year we are prioritizing creating space and time for us to gather together in community. Think more hanging out, sharing stories, and informal interactions and less all-day programming and sitting in chairs while listening to long talks. We will also have opportunities to spend time in different print shops around Chicago.
