About this event

Do you have a sewing machine that intimidates you? Do you want to understand what's going on beneath the covers, so you can repair and maintain it yourself? This workshop is for you. After a brief review of sewing machine technology, we will explore the areas that cause most problems and how to resolve them. Then we will get hands on and work on issues with your specific machine together. You will leave with a clean and oiled working machine and a bunch of knowledge to keep it that way.

Participants must bring their own sewing machine to work on.

Colin was a senior trainer in sewing machine refurbishment for Tools for Self Reliance, a UK non-profit that supports artisans in developing countries. Colin has been running workshops with groups for many years in the UK to support volunteer groups, and in the US at skill sharing gatherings and more recently at the Waste Shed.

Mary is a skilled sewing machine repairer.
